Reach out to Others for Help

You need safe places, a safe school community and caring people. Loneliness is a very common feeling, but it can be associated with an increased risk of depression, anxiety and increased stress.

  • Find others like you. Join clubs in school, associations in your community or volunteer opportunities. This can help you feel supported and respected.
  • Reach out to others. Withdrawing into yourself, your thoughts and your lonely feelings is not beneficial
  • Be persistent. If one group doesn’t work out, try another.
  • Connect with a caring adult. Someone in your family, community or a trusted teacher.
  • Ask people to check in with you. It’s a small thing to ask for in the age of texting, but it can help you stay connected, which is critical for your mental health.
  • Link to resources. There are many organizations listed on our site to connect you to a mental health professional. Click here.
