During the month of May 2022 – which is Sexual Assault Prevention Month – our student team put together breakfast events for female, male and non-binary students at WDHS to empower them to learn about healthy relationships in a positive way! We focused on ‘green flags’ in relationships. We even decorated green flags with empowering words and posted them in the school!
With the first in person guest speakers since COVID (!!!), Waterdown’s very own Lisa Ward, a life coach from The Flourishing Space, and Scott Balinson, former Police Staff Sergeant; we were so excited to have such inspirational people stand up in front of a crowd of 100+ students to teach such valuable lessons. Our speakers gave motivational speeches about common themes you can recognize in a healthy relationship including:
- Being yourself
- Boundaries
- Communication
- Balance

We believe in empowering ourselves and those around us, and learning, recognizing and practising healthy habits in all relationships of life to fully flourish and grow up healthy!
Our students had a ton of fun organizing and executing these breakfasts; they learned team work, leadership, event coordination and time management as well as the importance of empowering ourselves and each other to reach our goals and make a change in our world. We couldn’t have done this without them!
